Operations Research

In the Operations Research module, students learn to justify and apply the basic principles of mathematical optimisation methods for business decision support. This creates the basis for solving complex decision-making problems using these optimisation methods.

Contents of the module:

  • Introduction to deterministic models and their application
  • Optimisation techniques: simplex methods, branch-and-bound, and duality in linear programming
  • Advanced methods such as Benders decomposition and column generation
  • Introduction to branch & price and dynamic programming

The module combines theoretical foundations with practical examples to provide a deep understanding of optimisation methods. An additional exercise is offered in which the GAMS modelling language is used in the modelling exercises.
