Thesis

Thank you for considering writing your thesis at the Institute of Production Management.

At our institute, theses are usually beyond classic literature reviews. The basis of a thesis is often a mathematical model (for example from a paper or current research at the institute). As a rule, both Bachelor's and Master's theses at the Institute of Production Management contain a modelling and/or implementation task. This means that a given model should be implemented in a modelling language (e.g. GAMS or Gurobi) and extended by useful aspects. All members at the Institute of Production Management speak both German and English. The thesis can be supervised in German or English, and the thesis can be written in either language.

Registration for the thesis

Registration for the bachelor thesis

In order to ensure that all students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Economics receive a Bachelor's thesis topic, there is a central application procedure for Bachelor's theses, which is coordinated by the Office of Academic Affairs (Studiendekanat).

Information on the central application procedure

Bachelor's theses in the Business Adminstration and Engineering are assigned individually. In principle, registration is possible at any time with sufficient lead time (4 weeks). According to the examination regulations, the Bachelor's examination in Business Adminstration and Engineering includes a presentation of the results of your Bachelor's thesis in addition to the written paper. We will arrange individual dates for this depending on your requirements. As a rule, the presentation takes place halfway through the completion period.

If you are interested in writing a Bachelor's thesis at the Institute of Production Management (regardless of your degree programme), please complete the following web form. For the selection of topics, it would be helpful if you could send us a transcript of records so that we can assess your strengths. You will then receive a list of possible topics in good time, which you can prioritise. Based on your prioritisation, you will then be assigned a topic and a supervisor. We recommend that you work on your thesis during the lecture period, as this is when all supervisors are usually available.

You should have obtained at least 15 credit points in the Master's programme. You should also have already written a seminar paper or term paper with us. Knowledge of modelling and programming is required for the Master's thesis.
